This is a board for Mecha, Androids and Tokusatsu.
This means you can discuss about video games, anime and manga relating to mechs and androids such as Gundam and Ghost in the Shell or live action stuff like Tokusatsu Superheroes and Kaiju flicks such as Kamen Rider and Godzilla.
Before you start posting, read these rules.

• 1. Follow the Global Rules, Use the report function for illegal content.

• 2. Attention whoring posts may be deleted; this includes unnecessary namefagging and overuse of blogposting and avatarfagging.

• 3. Check the catalog before making a thread, so the board won't get clogged up with duplicates.

• 4. Spoiler NSFW content.

Follow the rules, be at ease and nobody will have any problems.

I've upgraded to version 3.1.0. I also have upgraded the offline AI manual.
I predict that within five years we'll see a whole new genre of Chinese Robot Kung Fu live-action films.

Let's start with a catch all.

Space Runaway Ideon / Densetsu Kyojin Ideon frustrated me a bit with its Tomino flair -instead of accustoming to it and to that of other renown directors I just think back to how good Yamato was- but the show and characters settle into place soon enough and it seems to be smooth sailing/suffering down the line, I'm just getting started (past the first 1/4th).

Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch a.k.a. Jibun Wo - I should have watched ten years ago, and it's a guilty ride for me. It doesn't make me sperg out but it's been a while without a shonen-like dose. I almost don't feel like finishing it.

I'd make a guess that maybe it was 24 chapters or something. The Japanese publisher released monthly from what it sounds like, and ran from sometime like 1993 to somewhere in 1995. Maybe Europe got the whole thing?

I can't call Reconguista in G great so far, but I won't deny that the setting is interesting. Even if it sucks to see the post-Turn A timeline regress into another forced technological standstill, it's neat to kind of piece together for myself what exactly some of the taboos are.
For example, at this point in the show I suspect wheeled personal vehicles are off-limit for everyone except elites. I've seen cargo trucks in the capital, and animal-drawn wagons seem to be permitted, but everyone who isn't a high-level politician seems to be stuck with some variety of legged vehicle for personal transportation. Why that in particular? Dunno. It's probably G-Reco's moonracers being neurotic as usual and trying to (unsuccessfully) drill into the earthmen's heads that they can't be trusted to have basic tech without elite oversight.

I've also noticed that a lot of the mecha have kind of questionable names. It's probably at least partially to fit in with this idea that the various factions' mecha designers are knowingly playing with fire by breaking taboo. Thus I'm seeing names like:
>Grimoire (a spellbook)
>Hecate (Greek liminal goddess of witchcraft, night, and crossroads among other things)
>Jahannam (basically Muslim Hell)
>Catsith (Scottish folklore monsters that steal souls from newly-dead corpses)
>Mack Knife

I decided to make another addition to this, but it's really almost a new class of mech as opposed to a selling point for existing designs. And unlike many of the other realistic mech use cases that we've talked about so far, this requires a mech that can actually walk and isn't a half-tank, half-mech design like many of these >>1106. A small and light quadruped design where the upper body is just a head would work for this; the AT-AA from the Star Wars expanded universe is a good example. Lore-wise the first version of the AT-AA couldn't attack ground targets at all, but later versions of it fixed this problem; we're going to assume the latter.

So far the main combat use for a realistic light mech is against drones and infantry, with a secondary anti-tank function achieved by planting I-beam barricades in the ground in strategic spots. You can also build a heavy tank-class mech to fight tanks, but you're going to pay more for it. But what if there was another way to beat tanks, one that the Reddit-tier tanktard midwits didn't even think about because they're too busy jacking themselves off about how a tank would just blast right through a mech, according to them?

I'm talking about a mech built specifically to raid logistics. The idea is that a mech can defeat a tank not through direct battle, but by sabotaging the supply lines needed for

Brief aside regarding the AT-AA's size: the AT-AA is still much larger than what I'm after here, although it's much smaller than the AT-AT or even the AT-TE. What I'm thinking of is something with a design similar to the AT-AA but a size class that puts it among the smallest things that could reasonably be described as a mech. It only needs to be big enough to hold a .50-caliber machine gun, its ammo drum, a rocket pod, and maybe some mines if conventional vehicles are pursuing you after a logistics raid and you're feeling cheeky. Mortars could also be used to retain the humanoid-body mech's anti-drone capabilities even if it can't be a construction bot. All this could be accomplished with a vehicle that's barely bigger than an SUV.

Wine apparently has an early form of OpenGL rendering virtualization in the newest release, which might be nice for running Slave Zero without breaking the ingame missile lock-on when it's a little more stable.
>>1031
That whole mess with dependency hell, Wine breaking for no clear reason (and fixing itself again for no clear reason), and Debian/Devuan's inherently janky idea of mixing in backport packages has made the thought of learning Guix very tempting lately.

Can we lay aside all the bullshit symbolism and waifu slapfighting to talk about some Eva robots? Say what you will about this show, the plot was nonsensical and depressing and the characters were obnoxious, but man, if you wanted to watch a bunch of robots beat the living crap out of some space aliens, this show was the shit.

Depending on your definition of 'mecha' you can watch a ship show like Yamato or Captain Harlock.

If you mean specifically infantry mechs, try western tabletop games. Most of 'em are dead but there are good and interesting designs. The problem though is that it's hard to straddle a line between 'humanoid' and 'tank with legs.' It's a matter of taste.

AT-43 gets talked about often in /tg/ spaces as they hired mech designers. I always liked the non-mechs from Battletech and Dust Tactics and Konflikt 47 had some hits and some misses.

Beat me to it, kek. Thanks to you lads for offering to host this place: I'm really glad /mecha/ gets to have a second chance.
The one change I've made to the rules so far was to remove the one about sticking to thread topics. I might try to reword it in the future, but staying on-topic isn't something I want to be too anal about, as being too rigid about that tends to stifle good conversation.
